Carrousel

  • This piece is a commentary on the people that their immigration status is not what is called “legal”. About the reality they find themselves in, once they come to a country they have idealized as a promised land. The Carrousel symbolizes that reality that at first seems playful and inviting. A situation in which they are always on the run and as a Carrousel, its path does not go anywhere. The materiality of the piece aims to resemble the precarious state they live in and at the same time reflects how fragile and unstable their status is in this country. Appropriating the border sign serves as a tool to emphasize the dehumanization these people go through and the desensitized view that society has on them, portraying them in the road sign as just an issue to be aware of and denying the viewer of the true reality of their human condition.
