作品主题的选定来源于建党百年来中国纺织工业体系从无到有，走向繁荣的光辉历程，旨在通过信息可视化的方式梳理中国纺织工业的发展过程和特征，从而让观众了解党的领导下中国纺织服装产业的每一步成长，感受中国纺织产业的生命活力。作品通过调研整理新中国近百种质感、颜色、工艺各异的服装面料，从其中挑选了80种面料种类、13种纤维组成形式、30多种编织方法，多种服装布料的进出口量等信息。
将无序的、繁杂的信息经过“转化”，通过使用合理的视觉化方法解构和组织主题内容，引导观者找到主要信息，形成有意义的、易于理解和传播的信息层级。兼顾内容清晰传达和视觉形式美感二者的结合。让世人共同阅读中国纺织服装百年发展的辉煌历程。同时，在作品的现场展示中选取了不同年代、不同种类的多种布料制作成立体装置，增进了观众对于纺织工艺发展的理解。
