The name for this project was derived from the Greek god Helios, a solar deity is regarded as an all-seeing witness and it was believed this was pertinent to the scope of this challenge in raising awareness. Furthermore its meaning can also be interpreted in a less figurative sense with the partnership to SolarBuddy and its endeavours to deliver lights to victims of energy poverty.
When deliberating where this piece would best be installed it was believed spaces with high foot traffic would be best to connect with people on a larger scale. Another consideration of the project was to not create any hinderance or obstacles for travellers and commuters as this would discourage potential donors.
It was believed that having the user superimposed on the advertisement this would create a personal tether to those who are less fortunate and a more direct connection could be formed. As mentioned in the slide above making a piece that is moving but does not create a hurdle for pedestrians was a difficult task though this proposed installation allows users to flow freely but is emotionally captivating.
