RECONSTRUCTION OF THE WALLS OF OLD JEWISH CEMETERY

RECONSTRUCTION OF THE WALLS OF OLD JEWISH CEMETERY, TOKAJ

Restoration project as part of the cemetery reconstruction program of MAZSÖK (Jewish Heritage in Hungary Public Endowment). The old jewish cemetery of Tokaj is situated within the walls of the ruined Rákóczi castle (lately on a floodplain), and was in use from the 18th century until 1921. At this location having medieval relics hidden in its ground, we coordinated archeological and architectural works, prepared the reconstruction plan of the remains of the cemetery wall and searched for the best flood control methods to preserve the area.
