Moab, Utah - Adventure Capital of the West

Travel Poster
Moab, Utah - Adventure Capital of the West
Adobe Illustrator, ProCreate, Adobe InDesign | 11''  x 16''
This poster was created for a class project centered around creating a travel destination poster inspired by a particular artist. I chose to focus on Moab, Utah because of my personal experience of traveling and exploring there. The artists that I gathered inspiration from are Abby Leighton and Sam Larson. Both of these illustrators create pieces based off the American West and adventure which I love.
Artist Inspiration from Sam Larson and Abby Leighton
Creating the layout and composition of the piece was the easiest part of this design, but when it came to color, text, and style, I had to play around with it a lot. I initially started out with a simple sketch of the cowgirl with the arches on her hat and then added in several other women exploring the landscape. A few of the girls changed as I dove further into the design. I wanted to create a color palette that reflected that of the red dirt in Arches National Park as well.  In the end, I created both a vector based poster and one with a more sketched out feel.
I created the poster on the left using Adobe Illustrator and I created the poster on the right by using a couple different programs. I initially created the sketch in Procreate and then laid the vectorized artwork from Adobe Illustrator underneath. I used Adobe InDesign to layout the text in both pieces, and the font I used was Drunk Cowboy and Futura. I personally liked the poster that was just vector but most people preferred the sketched one.
The Moab Travel Poster was put on exhibit in the Juried Student Art show at McNeese State University  and was feature on in our schools newsletter for the show.
