The doily is a classic example of the crochet art form that has been around for centuries. However, in the modern age they can increasingly be found stuffed in bins in the back of antique stores or boxes in our grandmother’s attics. With On/Off, I wanted to explore how to bring the doily into the modern age. Combining the craft with a more freehand style and the ideology of yarn bombing, I creating a glowing light that brings the craft into the modern home. My final takes the current trend towards colored LED lighting that can we found throughout social media and Gen Z bedrooms and gives it a sophisticated yet playful edge.
