DO YOU KNOW THE MOTHMAN?
No but thankfully, I was able to discover that Mothman is a local legend that originated in West Virginia. This creature was first sited by local gravediggers on November the 12, 1966. With its most notable sighting by a young couple and group of four teenagers sometime later. Each of these siting were viewed near Point Pleasant, West Virginia. However, It has now been more than 50 years since Mothman was first seen. Upon great research I can provided a general description of Mothman as a man like figure with huge batwings and large glowing red eyes.

That being said, I couldn't find any evidence or photos to support these details even as the sightings of Mothman continued. Furthermore, with a little more digging I was also able to uncover some other possibilities of what Mothman might be. These include a large owl, a mutated Sandhill Crane which may have been caused by leaking chemicals at a TNT military base near a McClintic wildlife preserve, or just a simple prankster.
Some have even gone as far as to declare that the sightings were a dark omen for what was to happen on December 15, 1967. This being the Big Span to Ohio Bridge or Sliver Bridge collapse that took over 40 lives. Reported sightings of Mothman have rapidly decreased since while, theories and pop culture surrounding Mothman have abounded.
I would even suggest that one of the most interesting yet, modern examples of Mothman crossing into pop culture, today. Comes from The Mothman Prophecies 2002. Which takes its primary sources materials from John Keel’s 1975 novel of the same name. Both of which place Mothman as the messenger of disaster and death, for those that see it. Through my research I was able to uncover a total of 84 deaths that have been attributed to Mothman sightings as suggested by, allcryptid.fandom.com.  This isn't to say that Mothman’s image is just doom-and gloom. In fact, there is a long standing Mothman Festival that takes place in September each year on Main Street in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. Locals and tourists flock the town each year to participate in the festivities. Point Pleasant also plays host to the one and only Mothman Museum and memorabilia store. It is here where anyone may partake in the history of Mothman and even go on guided tours around Point Pleasant.
