Surreal Room: Life and Death
My first ideas for this project was that it was simply going to be a spooky Halloween theme. During its creation, it evolved into something much more serious.
I have each skeleton interacting with something that is alive. One with the tree, another with butterflies, and the last one looking directly at the viewer. My main point is that these dead things can interact with life, but they're not alive. If they want to be alive, they'll need to go through the blue door. But don't worry, the key isn't hard to find.
Work in Progress Files
It first started with this room with the plant already in it.
Then I added the first two skeleton files.
The original plant didn't feel big enough so I replaced it with a bonsai tree. I added the apple to give the skeleton something to look at as well as add to the life and death narrative.
Here is the door in the back. I placed the lock over the front then connected the chains around it.
I decided to make the butterflies blue to balance out the color of the door on the right side of the image.

At this point, I though I had everything I needed for this project, but there was still a large empty space that needed to be filled.
Behold skeleton number three. I thought that making the skeleton coming out of the painting gave the image more depth.
Every good lock needs a key!
Time to add some fog.
Now for the best and final part, Shadows and shading!
These were all of the assets that I used. For some images, like the skeletons and the butterflies, I only selected a few out of all of them.
