The Last Straw 

In 2021, McDonald’s restaurants in Canada transitioned to using paper straws from plastic straws  in restaurants, alongside the removal of other single-use plastics, namely plastic cutlery*, stir sticks and straws as part of our global packaging commitment. We saw an opportunity to give new life to some single-use plastic straws. The Last Straw is an initiative focused on sustainability and upcycling. Working alongside The Rogerie, a Canadian owned company that specializes in making products from existing plastic, we turned our plastic straws into replicas of our iconic trays. A diverse group of 15 Canadian and Indigenous artists were selected to use these trays as canvases to portray their own unique styles of art. The pieces are a reflection of their perspective on sustainability and the environment.
