Process
This joke animation was a very fun project I got to work on, and I wanted to share my strategy. The plan was to come up with a joke and to create an animation in Adobe XD to reveal it. It is set up like a question/answer type of joke, where you click the question and the answer gets revealed. My approach was to choose a joke about why people to play cards in the jungle (spoiler: too many cheetahs). I had a vision of how the animation was going to work, so I began to sketch very rough frames. My vision was to have a hover state over the question, which indicates to click on it, and it will reveal the answer by leaves dispersing. Behind the leaves would be cheetahs playing poker. When I finished sketching my plan, I continued to make a more detailed drawing with the first and last frames of the animation. I brought my sketches into Adobe Illustrator and vectored both roughs. After finishing my vector stage, I brought both frames into XD. To make my animation I set a span of art boards so I could slightly move the leaves frame by frame. I prototyped each art board to connect the frames, and used the time feature to establish the animation.
