These maps were created for a blind student in Grade 8, equivalent to the ones in his class' Geography textbook.
What the other students would take in at a glance through colour coded maps, the blind student had to learn by feeling and identifying different textures. Because of all the features and information required to convey, basic braille maps were not enough.
The tactile maps offered him an interactive way to take in geographic information that would otherwise be presented to him as dry text.
My chosen materials were simple from the local stationary, easy to manipuate, cut out, and glue on, with very distinct textures.
While tracing the maps I simplified a little bit for the sake of clarity, while staying as accurate as possible to the original source.
This collection is for the region of East & Southeast Asia, a total of 6 maps, one for each of the geographic features; Physical, Climate, Population, Land use, Resources and Precipitation.
