Homesick
Homesick was created over the course of 2022 as part of my Honours studies at the University of Newcastle. Taking the form of an artists’ book, Homesick investigates the connection between artmaking and memory, specifically focusing on the home as a space.

I have always been fascinated by the concept of home. To me, the home is more than just a physical place. It is the relationships performed inside the space, how the space is decorated, who lives there, and much, much more. It is about the emotions the inhabitant experiences.
Homesick views the concept of home through the lens of my personal experience. Each home I have lived in has its own “chapter.”

Watercolour and gouache illustrations topped with layers of tracing paper create a textural, collage-like appearance. Accompanied by detachable photos and diary-like letters, Homesick aims to evoke a feeling of nostalgia in the viewer.

All illustrations were created using only personal memories as a guide. Accuracy was not the intention of these drawings – the purpose was to explore the depth of the relationship between artmaking and memory recollection.
