A vacation is an escape from everyday reality, an opportunity to interact with new environments. Contemporary artists create immersive installations to explore new aesthetic environments and encourage new modes of interpersonal interaction. VACATION brings these installations out of the often stifling and imposing environment of the museum, and into the fun and relaxed atmosphere of a cruise, inviting viewers to approach the work with the curious and free-spirited attitude of the tourist. In turn, VACATION examines the culture of tourism and spectacle with a critical eye.

Artist-in-Residence: The rotating exhibition space in the Captain’s Critique Gallery, features contemporary artist Ubin Li’s recreation of popular tourist spots from around the world. Inspired by fake tourist towns in China where you can visit Paris and Cairo in the same afternoon, VACATION explores simulated realities of travel.
Observatory Nights: Exploring Space, the Final Frontier—Vacations in space are the future! Join us to learn more about stars and planets as future tourist locations in our Universe Room. Learn about new sightseeing views, constellation destinations, and have the first look into vacations of the future!
Concert Series: Sounds of the Beach, Rainforest, Mountains, and Space—join us in our Destination Installations to immerse yourself in a singularly sonic experience of popular vacation spots.
Interactive Digital Service: “Landscape Therapy”: Select your current mood and VACATION will email you high quality, high resolution photos of recommended destinations matching your disposition, to be downloaded as screensavers on your computer, phone, or tablet.
The Oasis Cafe: VACATION is pleased to present The Oasis, a museum cafe featuring food and drink from the Saharan landscape. Diners will be entertained by time lapse videos of beautiful desert landscape on floor to ceiling projections.
