The Seven Creative Strategies

The Creative Strategies: Graphic Design 235
In my BYU Idaho class we learned about the seven creative strategies that can be used to create designs depending on the context and situation. My professor asked me to create an image to represent each one. To create these images I was to chose a simple everyday object to use in them. My object of choice was scissors.
Below is a compilation of sketches of ideas I was exploring for my compositions. As you can see I did many.
Combination
Title: The Sharp USB
For this creative strategy, I combined the scissors with a USB/charger cable and have them connected to my laptop. The way everything is positioned the scissors seem to look like a USB drive.
Juxtaposition
Title: Only one can cut
For this strategy, I found that I could have a pair of scissors and lead angle shears positioned to cut. Both have the similar function to cut but different materials.
Isolation
Title:Oops
For this strategy, I made a creative spill with the scissors positioned just far enough to seem isolated. This allows it to be the focus point and help guide the viewer's eye.
Metaphor/Simile
Title:Deforestation
For this strategy it was simple, have the scissors seem to cut a forest apart to reveal beneath a busy city, a metaphor of today's reality.
Change of Context/Environment
Title: Chopsticks
For this strategy, I chose to use the scissors in a different unexpected environment. Here they are used as a substitute for chopsticks.
Shape/Physical Similarity
Title:Scissors?
For this strategy, I used to spoons to make the illusion of scissors. From far away they could pass off as a pair of scissors.
Material Exchange
Title: Every Last Bit
For this strategy, I chose the scissors to be made up of small pieces of cut lead. Thankfully, my workplace provided plenty of material.
