Facsimile is my own visual development project created for the University of Hertfordshire in 2022, and features character, environment, and prop designs inspired by eras in history and real world cursed objects.
It's a story of a protagonist haunted by a past he cannot remember, while trying to survive in a world that he can't help but feel an undeniable feeling of falseness about it.
The Duchess is a character which the player interacts with through repairs, and one sided conversation on the players part, as the Duchess is a doll being worked on almost obsessively throughout the game.
She is inspired by the Black Prince's Ruby, thought to be discovered in the 1300's, and given to the British royal family around the 1800's.
"Her beauty is undeniable, even with her crumbling, rotting stature. The loneliness in her eyes draw me in. Everything about this... thing... intrigues me..."
