DESIGN FOR GOOD – SEXUAL VIOLENCE IN SINGAPORE
For this project, I am interested in designing to help solve or mitigate the issues that arise from sexual harassment or imbalances in power in our society today. This issue is particularly important to me as it is a problem faced by me and sadly numerous friends that I have who had gone through a similar experience. I hope to raise awareness and empower victims to speak up using my future designs.

Problem Statement: Sexual harassment victims need to have a reliable reporting system because up to 70% of workplace cases go unreported due to the poor current enforcement put in place, breeding an unsafe environment for all victims that normalises sexual harassment.

"1 in 10 respondents think that women who are raped are often asking for it." – International Violence Against Women Survey, 2010. The materiality of the stitch (or 'what they were wearing') is often a point of contention when it comes to speaking out about sexual harassment in today's day and age. This is why I utilised the underwear as a symbolic subject matter, as well as used a stitch-like brush stroke for this poster. This poster also serves as a functioning infographic: Each red stitch on the poster represents one child sexual violence survivor and each red stitch represents each repeat sexual assault offender.

This is one of my contributions to stop sexual violence in Singapore. I hope to create a safe space for discussion and provide comfort for those who have been affected, my heart goes out to all of you.
