Retro Clocks Pattern Design
Retro clocks
This week on Spoonflower, the Design Challenge was Time Machine. The prompt we were given was this, "Over the last year we’ve traveled to the 1800’s, 1920’s, 1970’s and early 2000’s through Design Challenges. This week you’re in the driver’s seat. Take us on a journey to your favorite time period, even if it hasn’t actually happened yet!"
To me, this took me to the retro age of clocks. Back when we used wall clocks to tell the time, there were many shapes and colors they would come in. I wanted to feature some of these
Sketching
I started out by sketching some clocks in Procreate based on some different shaped clocks I found on Pinterest. Varying the shapes and kinds of numbers/tick marks helped each clock to feel unique and brought that retro feeling.
Colorizing
The next step was to add some color to them. I played around with the shades but sticked with mostly muted blues, greens, pinks, and purples.
Vectorizing
Moving into Illustrator, I created my clocks, recolored them a bit, and arranged them into a square to make a pattern tile. I then added a background, fine tuned the colors, and made my pattern.
