Concord Cooperative Market

The Concord Cooperative Market (Co-op) wanted an upgrade to their "granola" image so that the store would appeal to the mainstream. A re-branding included the introduction of clean white papers, bright natural colors, simple graphic shapes, and close-up photos of luscious fruit, vegetables and other products. With the change in branding the Co-op saw a dramatic increase in sales, traffic and popularity.

The Co-op membership brochure was located at the checkout counter and included an overview and an application card. The back side of of the card contained a list of the benefits of becoming a Co-op member.

A local artist was asked to paint seasonal fruit and vegetables so that a series of 4 Postcards could be developed.
The card fronts were all ganged and printed together to save money. The backs were left blank to enable a quick
print run of black any time there was a need to correspond with members about upcoming classes and events.
Card illustrations were encircled by common quotes about gardening, nature, and nutrition.
The Co-op Ad Campaigns varied quite a bit and used a mix of illustration and photography.
Shown are two different ads, at several sizes, promoting some of the Co-op events.
The Co-op deli, named Celery Stick Café & Catering, was given
this quick Logo to use for window signage and the packaging of baked goods.
This series of Buttons shows a number of potential directions for the theme
"Think Global. Buy Local." In the end, the button on the lower right was chosen for execution.
Because the re-branding effort was timed to correspond with the expansion and reopening of the
Co-op in their rennovated space, interior signage and decor was designed. Numbered Hanging
Signs
(top), and Standard Signs (middle) were meant to be suspended between and above the isles.
Banners (bottom) were hung on the walls or suspended over produce and display areas.
