In The Miso Soup
In The Miso Soup by Ryu Murakami was first published as a newspaper series in Japan in the late 90s. Since then, it's become kind of a cult classic and for good reason. The book is creepy, relatable, and absorbing. I've never read anything so quickly.
I wanted to cover to give the book the comic, creepy, indulgent style that it deserves. It's such an engrossing and fun read so I imagine that this cover would make it stand out on the shelves of any bookstore amongst other horror genres.
Additionally, the book includes a lot of capitalistic and consumerist commentary so I wanted to depict the miso, as the quick/easy mass-produced product rather than the traditional paste.
