The Izikhothane sub-culture is based within the Soweto Johannesburg Townships. The main gang members are black men aged 12 - 15 years old old. “Izikhothane” means “to boast” or “to brag” which perfectly explains and describes the nature of this unique subculture and what it entitles. The Izikhothane subculture prides themselves in fashion, wealth, expensive alcohol, fame in their communities and performing dances where crowds gather to watch.
The Izikhothane gangs want to be known for celebrating fashion, dance and black township culture. As soon as the gangs begin to dance, drink and flash there clothing, people gather to take pictures and film them in action. They believe that through there wealth they are setting the example for people who cannot afford brands as them, but can work towards having it.
