THE BOOK TO COME - The Books Of The Future

Designing Books of the Future

This is a project of re-creating a printed published item into an e-published collateral that includes a set of interactive and animated collaterals.
I have chosen The 4th issue of the journal "Unlikely". that discusses about the innovation and evolution of photography, that is illustrated and communicated through different forms of contemporary and minimalistic style of art.
It is delivered in the forms of an E-book, digital GIF  formats, digital mockups which include individual elements from the journal and personal reflections as a part of communication process.
PRIMARY RESEARCH - Issue No.4 from the Journal

Anna Artekar talks about her experiences and her development processes on nature printing and the evolution in photography in context to the Herbarium. She talks about the development of step by step process of creating botanical motifs and using them in academic purposes in seasons when there were no living plants. Anna talks about how creation and innovative ideas on how the imprints were created by taking notes from different sources that date back to 18th century. References and inspirations were taken from decades long processes which were invented by ancient botanists such as William Henry Fox Tablot for the photography experiments on he botanical plants and how these processes were carry forwarded by several other scientists and botanists by setting a the base as a concept to continue on their own contributions for the process.

Lastly, she talks about the comparisons/co-relation between the the ancient and modern methodology related to making prints and also concludes that these re-appear as a cycle from the history and it all depends on the human brain as to how it captures or understands the history behind these.
SECONDARY RESEARCH - concept and visualization

Anna Artekar’s publication proves as a reference point for carrying out further research on how these
processes were carried out and by whom. As the client publishes the content in the context of sharing and exchanging content through creative arts and also while considering the present global scenario,
this marks a beginning to further dig into rethink creative formats of e-publications that are very easy to read and on the go, yet creatively out of the box concepts.
The four processes to further include as a contribution towards the publication of botanical imprints which
open up a space to re-imagine the print publication into different forms of e-publications in the formats of online posters, social media posts, GIF’s, E-advertisements.

1. THE PHOTOGENIC DRAWING
2. THE SALTED PAPER PRINT
3. THE CALOTYPE NGATIVE
4. THE CYANOTYPE PHOTOGRAPHY
Unlike print publication, E-publications open up a broader space to experiment with the formats and
play around with the layouts to give the viewer an experience of not only reading it but also letting the
viewer appreciate the interface design of the format. While text only articles make the publication
monotonous, the idea of including illustrations and layouts of graphic design helps the viewer not get
diverted yet stick to the content till the end.

1. LINE ILLUSTRATIONS OF THE BOTANICAL MOTIFS
2. e-ADVERTISEMENTS
3. INFOGRAPHIC OF THE PROCESS CREATION FROM THE SCRATCH TO THE FINAL OUTCOME
4. POSTERS
5. GIF’s
