All the magic begins behind the curtain. The red boundary built the tension of mystery and curiosity about what is happening on the other side. It hides a space of unlimited rehearsals, where actors, musicians or artists are bringing their performances to perfectionism. All the unreal start to live once the curtain opens and it invites you to join the show.
The irish ruins of Kells Priory have been always exposed to the outside, now they are partly covered to become actors on their own. To protect the existing heritage the new modular frame structure is elevating the building to not touch the ruins, but it consumes the space between them. The facilities are built with capsules, which are placed into modular frame structure. The transparency of rounded capsules creates a contrast to the heavy masonry of the walls and provides attractive views, where the inside and outside are melting together.
The main entrance to the „Art Cathedral” is placed on the south part of the Priory on level +1. The „Water Tower” is flanking the composition of the entrance area as the main landmark of this place. The inside functions are divided into two levels. Level +1 hosts all the public functions including an indoor exhibition area, employee’s area, restaurant and bar. The north part - the presbyterium, transept and nave as the most significant rooms of the old Priory are now dedicated to artists as a workshop space. The artists have separated circulation with a floor above, where their apartments and collective spaces are placed.
The new design of the landscape refers to the amphitheater’s typology to provide diverse views from different levels of the new complex and on the other hand, it gives a chance to use it as a part of an outdoor exhibition area and collective events with an audience like concerts or summer plays.

Module of the capsule are fitted in the woodframe structure without touching the ruins and capsules of each level (+1, +2) are not touching themselves. They are placed in structure separately. The only exeption are capsules two stories high to host higher exhibition and workshop space. The wood frame columns are not touching the ruins but are placed between the walls of the old Priory.
