Invest In A Good Microphone

One Thing That Should Be At The Top of Your Priority List For 2023

When starting out upon your creative journey it’s easy to fall into the trap of wanting to try everything and buying the best equipment before you identify the niche that you will focus on. We all do it, so don’t think you’re alone in this.

If you’re just starting out, my advice would be to restrain yourself from doing so. There are some great deals out there for starter packs that you can get your teeth into and hone your skill set.

However, if you’re producing video content, the one thing I would suggest that goes against this grain is invest in a good microphone.

"If you’re creating video content, be that for yourself, or in the process of building a client list, the one thing I would suggest you invest in this year, is good audio."

People remain forgiving when the visual aspect of your video isn’t quite on point. Now, don’t get me wrong, it’s always a good idea to get this aspect right, but if you’re a touch off, people tend not to jump up and down about it. What they won’t forgive however, is bad audio.

When I’m sat at my desk, in front of the computer creating podcasts or talking head style videos I will always use my studio microphone, the NT1-A Rode Mic.

There are other things I could invest in that would aid me in producing better sound, for example a sound blanket or sound panels for the wall, but these all come at a cost, and something that if your starting out you may not have the budget to include.

In the beginning work with what you have. You may have to be a little creative with the space you work within, and that’s absolutely fine. This will only help you as you develop your skills around video production. But one thing I’d advise you don’t compromise on is your audio.

Be creative. Be inspired. Be you.
