Do Not Touch is an interactive sound and light installation which allows users to create music with their hand gestures, similar to a conductor of an orchestra. As the name implies there is no physical contact with the piece. The user’s presence is detected by their proximity which activates the device. When a pad is activated a musical note plays and the LED matrix illuminates. In this way it is possible to compose music through gestures.
Three pads were developed as a prototype. The final piece would comprise of eight pads, each of which would play a different note of the musical scale, DO, RE, MI, FA, SOL, LA, SI, DO.
This was a student project during my MA on Interactive Media and I've worked in collaboration with Nuno Viegas and David McLellan.
Our prototype was only powered by one arduino board and and we only used one buzzer.
