MENHIRS
Menhirs appear to me like enigmatic, imposing and their balance impresses me. I come from Brittany, so I know them well. I am wondering what are their meanings, why are they standing ?
Dolmens seem like the oldest human construction, rising from the earth. They stand up thanks to the association of two verticals and one horizontal.
I interpret standing stones by thinking them like origami. This folding process creates angles and volumes, surfaces and mouvement. To represent menhir, I make the choice to use reinforced concrete as it translates its minerality and challenges the finesse and the lightness of origa- mis’ papers. This material has been used by Jan and Joel Martel during the exhibition of decorative arts in 1925. They prove its solidity by creating cubist trees.
On top, I draw up a new menhir’s field. I imagine it on a mirror to extend the origami figure.
