AMAZON PROTEST POSTER

AMAZON PROTEST POSTER
My poster encourages Amazon warehouse workers to unionize and protest for better working conditions.

I went with a Swiss-style design because it reminded me of 1920s German Modernism/Bauhaus design principles, which celebrated technological advancements by creating efficient, modular, and functional products concerning both the design and production processes. This is evident in my use of a grid system, accessible Helvetica font, and the implementation of a black-and-white color scheme for easy printing.
Such an orderly form, fascinatingly, juxtaposes its content––echoing the disorderly, tumultuous mistreatments that warehouse workers endure daily. The poster disguised itself as a product of capitalism and only revealed its anti-capitalism remarks upon close inspection, which parallels Amazon’s performative activism for workers’ rights over the years.

The bolded numbers (6-18; 18/h) describe a worker’s average shift length (12 hours) and the unfair compensation they received (18/h; minimum wage). I decided not to repeat the number 18 in 18/h because as we read from top to bottom and left to right, the “18” previously used in the context of time lingers onto the following line.

The small, capitalized paragraphs detailing warehouse workers’ horrendous working conditions were arranged to resemble Amazon’s exponential growth in sales revenue over the years (up to 2021), thus implying Amazon’s success as a product of capitalist exploitation.
This is an alternative version of the poster – one that has been ruined; ripped; torn from external impacts. I consider this version a celebration of the worker's perseverance.
