BYUI: Hart Building Signage

In addition to the map designed for the remodeled Hart Building (see previous project), new signage was needed to help students and visitors navigate the space. Since the exact locations of the signs had not yet been finalized, three versions of each directional sign were designed, with arrows pointing left or right, and without arrows.
Hanging Signage
Sizing
BYUI has a number of different types of signage on campus, and in an effort to match the style of existing signage, a study was done of signage standards around campus, and a few different size options were explored. (below) The temporary foam signs hanging in the halls were slightly smaller than the standard size for signage around campus. The smaller size seemed to fit the space better, so the decision was made to cut the permanent signage in the Hart Building down to that size as well.
Style Points
In an effort to try and maintain the wooden paneling theme found throughout the building, the signs were customized with a strip of wood across the top. This idea was taken from the Kimball administrative building, which features a similar building style, and similar signage style to match.
Above: Example of the customized signage in the Kimball building.
Below: Schematics for the manufacturers of the signs. I'm no engineer but I'm rather proud of this.
Wall Mounted Signage
Wall mounted signage followed a very similar design process, however with less customization. The larger, standard sign size was used in designing them, and they do not have wood across the top.
