PROJECT BRIEF
For this assignment I designed the look and feel of a catalogue for the School of Art and Art History at the University of Iowa. This project was designed to serve as an introduction to the concepts, principles, and complex systems inherent in publication design. It helped students to be introduced to prepress processes as well as a number of contemporary output methods, including professional-grade online publishing as well as interactive digital delivery.

WHY
School Assignment
PROCESS
For this assignment I was provided with a collection of source images and texts, and was instructed to apply them in a visually pleasing way in order to convey the ideas of the catalogue. Since it was intended to display the artists and art historians of the department, I chose to lean on a heavy use of imagery, sometimes creating two-page spreads of the artworks and incorporating some text within the images to maximize their presence on the printed page.

DESIGN
To convey the contemporary nature of much of the art work I decided to select a bold sans serif font, settling on Montserrat. For the secondary typeface I chose PT Sans, as it is simple and clean, and accompanies the similar nature of Montserrat. I highlighted each section with an inclusion of the color yellow, the University of Iowa's primary color, with the color being sourced from their official logo for consistency.

The catalogue totaled 116 pages, and the page size was 8.5x11” (8.25x10.75” after trim). A physical copy was ordered through MagCloud printing service.
