This piece was commissioned by Gaysi Family, for the Trans Day of Remembrance this year. Everyday we embrace our trance joy and welcome experiences of euphoria in our body and relationships, but ever so often we are confronted by instance of violence, news of transphobic hatred, exposing our vulnerability to mental illness, homelessness, poverty, and so many other structural forms of alienating our identities. All our trans-ancestors who laid down their lives in their pursuit of being true to themselves, and the many others who continue to assert themselves and stand up for the rest of us everyday - those who confront bureaucracy in governance to help the community access resources, those who tirelessly build safe spaces, those who love and care for their trans-siblings, those who advocate for gender & sexuality education for all, those who stomp on the face of indiscriminate shooters in gay bars and disarm them, those who resist the oppressive boots of patriarchy everyday, online, on the streets, in their homes, at workplaces - we see you, and hope to feed your strength as much as you feed ours.
