Lunar Module Artist Book Design
When creating an artists book I felt inspired by the fact that the typeface Futura was specifically chosen to be used on the plaque that would remain on the moon from the first visit that mankind made to the heavenly sphere. I wanted to make sure that I did justice to the font and it's futuristic persona. In using an accordion fold I was able to cut out the typeface in a metallic paper and have it look as if it was floating in between the pages. The octagon design was the base of the model of the Apollo module that landed on the moon and lended itself really well to be fitted in the middle of the model. I included a picture of the plaque at the beginning of the book and a short excerpt about the font. At the end of the book I included a quote by Douglas Thomas about when to use Futura. This was an incredibly fun project and I enjoyed it's assembly and the way it challenged me.
