Ah, the hamburger menu.

Sometimes pithy, always honest.

Ah, the hamburger menu. Mention it to many a UX/CX designer and you may get the stink eye/furrowed brow in response. This is my take on how the hamburger menu should be organized for the Pacific Blue Cross website. It borrows many elements from my previous PBC global nav bar, including using the ever-popular 8-point grid system.

Now, this is one big menu! To help with user/cognitive fluency (a.k.a. make stuff easy to find), I increased the text size of all the headers, made them all caps, and introduced thumbnail photos as visual markers. Also, simply adding the word “Menu” below the ubiquitous 3 horizontal line icon on the PBC home page should help users of all experience levels identify that, "Yes, I’m a menu link, click on me.”
