Shoyna plein air etudes
In one of my projects I've noted that I was once given an amazing opportunity to sketch and draw in an Attic village, the most Northern sand desert of the world. Here I invite you to look through tempera etudes I've painted while there. They may be messy (there once was wind and rain so strong my painting got blown out of my hands and landed of course face down in sand), but they, I believe, carry the atmosphere and the feeling of this formidable place.
The fist one here is the unlock one with sand still sticking to the paint. The left one is one of the reasons I came there - the electric poles on the picture are actually a mere one meter tall, the rest (about ten meters) is under the send - there used to be a street, now the dunes've devoured them.
Another spectacular thing is the sunsets. The sun barely comes down in August and don't come down in June and July at all. I was there in August and still could enjoy some of the midnight twilight, but also the sunsets and the mother of pearl colors of the wet sand reflecting all the reds and purples and blues.
I was also taken to the riverbed and fishing villages there are a graceful sight on the flat endless surface. Few things grew there, no trees, so nothing blocks the perspective. And the "grass is always redder on the other river bench".
And the main hero of all the village - the old light house in all its glory. One of the things that got me attracted to the place first but not last.
Thank you for your attention!
