Times of the Day
Art Quilts
Capturing the sun is a common theme for me, whether it's in photographs or re-created in my artwork. Sometimes the best way to capture the sun is to see the effects of the sun rather than the star itself. This textile art series is an abstracted depiction of the sky during certain times of the day. As well as taking reference photographs and dyeing all of the fabric by hand, I looked to Monet's Haystack paintings for help in seeing a wider range of colors, and to Mondrian for the structural ideas to design and create these pieces.

Actual size of each piece: 42 x 51.5 in

They were on display at the Truman State University Gallery in 2004 and the Moberly Area Community College Gallery in 2009.
