"Gridiron, Royally Funny" branding, promotion

As a class at Wichita State University, Shocker Ad Lab concepted and presented three themes to the Kansas Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists board for their annual "Gridiron" scholarship fundraiser. With all the drama going on across the pond, "Royally Funny" was the hands-down favorite theme. Although the entire class brainstormed the theme, students Brianna Nguyen, art director and Angelina Phan, copywriter served as the creatives on this project.
First things first. Save the date.
We printed two versions of the post cards — one for mailing, the other to use as table tents at the show promoting the 2024 show dates and encouraging more donations.
Then it was time to start promoting favorite aspects of "Gridiron," like the bar. "Gridiron, Royally Funny" was staged at Roxy's Downtown, a cabaret-style theater.
As an additional fundraiser, SPJ hosts a VIP Party after the Friday night show, which requires additional promotional work.
During covid, we figured out there are people who don't want to get out, but also want to see the show. We started offering live streaming Saturday night only.
Of course throughout the night and in our promotions we reminded our target audience that this is a scholarship fundraiser for college journalism students across Kansas.
Each scholarship recipient was featured in a post with a short bio above the graphic.
The week of the show we posted a countdown across all social media to create excitement and serve as a reminder that although the Friday show was sold out, Thursday night and Saturday night tickets were still available. Great work by Brianna Nguyen and Angelina Phan.
