Tragedy of a good life
Kayla Roelofsz (2016)

This is the story of Piet Taljaard, a 92-year-old man who reflects on his past. He cherishes the memories of his youth when his father taught him the virtues of love and kindness. After school he became a pilot. The war came, and he still has nightmares at night of flying and dropping 6 000 ton bombs on cities. When he was 22, he met his wife of 57 blissful years. Piet and his family later moved to Rhodesia, "God's own country", only to return to South Africa with the clothes on their backs when Rhodesia became independent. Piet recalls how he used to reassure his children, who were afraid of the terrorists, by telling them that there are many good people in the world, but it is difficult to find them.
