The Master's College - Paper Art

The project for The Master's College was straight forward. It was clear what they wanted: the college emblem and the name of the school. Designing the project didn't take much time because both the typography and emblem were already set in stone in the school's branding standards.
The initial sketch was quickly approved I dove straight into the a high-fidelity mockup using Photoshop
I always inverse my paper cuts and block out the design on the back of the board or paper, this way pencil lines are never visible to the viewer
I cut out the words all by hand with an x-acto knife.
For the gold portions of the college's emblem I measured and cut out the pieces out of 1/2 foam board, and applying gold paper to the outside
With the emblem done, the long haul of the quilling process began.
While transferring the artwork from one table to another I noticed the light shining through the letters pleasantly. I decided cling to the serendipitous discovery and I purchased LED's and wired them up on the board directly behind the letters of 'The Master's College', so the letters would glow. After doing this I noticed that the bright words distracted from the college's emblem, so I went ahead and wired the LED's around the entire perimeter of the frame to shine down onto the outside of the artwork as well.
This piece ended up being mounted and revealed in the college's newest welcome center. It was placed directly between the two main doors to the gymnasium, allowing all the college's visitors to sneak a glance at it.
