The waves at “El Quemao” can reach up to 3 meters and are known for their power, making it a popular destination for experienced surfers.
Shooting surfing in black and white allowed me to focus on capturing the movement of the water and the surfers, highlighting the action and drama of the sport creating a powerful visual impact and helping to tell the story of surfing and its cultural significance in Lanzarote and across the world.
The surf spot gained popularity in the 1980s and 1990s as more and more surfers began to travel to Lanzarote in search of good waves. The surf culture on the island grew, and El Quemao became a hub for surfers from all over the world.

In recent years, the surf spot has also become a popular destination for surf tourism, with surfers coming to Lanzarote to experience the waves and the island's unique surf culture.
