Rača špilja, cave on Lastovo Island, Croatia

Rača špilja, an undeveloped cave on the Dalmatian Island of Lastovo
The Rača cave on the Dalmatian Island of Lastovo is a protected geomorphological monument and an archaeological site not developed for tourism. It can be reached by hiking through the Island's wilderness. You need about three hours to get from the village Lastovo to the entrance of the cave.
Rača špilja is is 70 metres long and spacious, with sections separated by walls and an abundance of stalagmites and stalactites.
Archaeological data testifies that the Rača cave was inhabited from the late stone age until the Greek and Roman era. The most important find is a wood carving razor tool with a double blade and a cross embossed in the middle.
The cave's dome and safest corners are a home to a colony of bats. Other inhabitants of the Rača cave are cave crickets of the species Dolichopoda araneiformis which you can see in my pictures.
