As an introductory course to typography, this project required the combination of both letter and number to create one cohesive symbol.
In this project, the objective was to use imagination to create a "new" alphabet using any type of materials and/or techniques that came to mind. Due to my love of cooking and baking I expolred many different alphabets using vegetables, fruits, sweets, candies and other delicious foods that all ended up in my stomach. I finally decided on baking cookies in the shapes of the letters of the alphabet using a template that I had drawn out. After multiple batches of burnt and gooey cookies I finally baked the perfect alphabet batch. This project taught me how to work with different materials and how each material must be manipulated differently to reach the end product.
The goal of this project was to explore a specific typeface and create blocks that captured that specific typeface. I decided to explore Courier because it is one that people don't commonly consider. Finding that Courier was the typeface used in Lego's initial logo I decided to go with a Lego theme to my blocks. In addition, we had to create a poster that captured the characteristics of the typeface and the blocks.
The main object of this project was to take a knowledge of type and apply it to an animation work. Being that it was the first time that I worked in Adobe Flash I limited myself in my initial sketches. Once I was familiarized with Adobe Flash I found myself changing my ideas and becoming more adventurous. This was a personal favortite project because it took type and transformed it into a more interactive medium.
Poster.
Postcard.
Each year at the University of Notre Dame, the Design program invites different designers who are making a difference in the design community. In 2012 that designer was Emily Pilloton. Emily Pilloton is the Founder of Project H Design which is a program that offers a design curriculum to students in grades 8-11. When Emily Pilloton's talk was announced, our typography class was given the task of designing a type campaign that would reflect Project H, Studio H, and Emily Pilloton. In designing a poster, postcard and business card, different platforms of display were handeled.
