Academic (Final Project) – 2013
The starting point of the project was the extensive and complex theme of urban mobility one of the main examples for the concept of wicked problem. In the first place, the study takes different approaches into consideration —current affairs, historic evolution, cultural aspects, opinion of experts, professionals and critics, and existing solutions— with the aim of attaining the necessary knowledge for dealing with the selected problem. It gives special attention to the city of São Paulo, an example of global importance when it comes to the problem of urban mobility.

For this project, the chosen case was an emblematic issue encountered within the city: the daily commute made by dwellers of high-end residential complexes located in the outskirts of São Paulo being Alphaville the main example. According to the designated methodology, the most appropriate way for dealing with a wicked problem like the aforementioned was to select one issue and find a possible solution for it.

A possible solution for the problem was developed on a conceptual level based on the mapping of the chosen area and the contact established with residents. A high-quality transport service for the vascularization of Alphaville was developed aiming at the year of 2030. This service makes it possible to connect its residents to other public transport modes, constituting an integrated intermodal transport system for the city of São Paulo.

One of the study’s most remarkable aspects is approaching the problem from a cultural standpoint, which was identified as one of the most aggravating factor. The proposed solution has the potential to promote cultural change in society through the idea of cultural acupuncture, minimizing problems and creating an optimistic future.
