Shunan Bamboo Sea

Shunan Bamboo Sea (蜀南竹海)is a 120 square kilometer forest of bamboo and waterfalls, located in Sichuan, China. Scenes from "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" were famously shot here.

On our 2 day trip, we had to hire a driver in order to visit all the scenic points. We spent hours strolling through the shade of bamboo stalks, most of which were the thickness of birch trees. We met a few locals on the way, carrying large machetes to hack down the older bamboo. They use these to produce goods ranging from intricate Buddhist sculptures, to cloth, to food. We didn't realize there were so many ways to cook bamboo!
