Langa Living Spaces

Langa Township was unofficially created in the early 1920's as a ghetto of Cape Town. After the Group Areas Act of 1950, Langa Township became a place of governmentalized segregation. 99% of Langa's current population is black. Langa is both the oldest and smallest township in the Western Cape. The community is close knit and very supportive.

Contrary to popular image, not all of the homes in Townships are tin shacks with dirt floors. In this project I attempt to reveal the unexpressed beauty and uncanniness of the living spaces within Langa. I would like to express my deep gratitude to the families participating in Langa TAG for allowing me into their homes to photograph them and their space.
