About Gracy Design & Craft

Gracy Design & Craft is the creative shop of designer and maker Sara Pastrana. As a lover of embroidery and cross stitching since the young age of thirteen, Sara decided to open a shop in October of 2013 and named it after her mother. The shops main focus is to create original designs that are embroidered on unconventional mediums.

In Gracy Design & Craft's infancy, designs were embroidered onto everything from plastic, paper, canvas and found objects. During this exploration phase Sara discovered a passion for wood working and desktop CNC fabrication.

Now Gracy Design & Craft's main focus is to create home décor that features designs on wood and paper.

Logo design inspiration

The cross stitch is one of the oldest stitches in the world and is used mainly on even-weave fabrics. When designing a pattern for cross stich you are limited to vertical, horizontal and 45-degree lines. Smooth curves are out of the question.

The challenge was to create a logo that is based on the 45-degree grid but avoid designing a cliché logo made out of x’s.

Creating a balance between hard angles and swooping curves. The materials used in creating the embroidered pieces hold similar juxtapositions, wood is hard and unyielding, thread is soft and adaptable.

The brand

Interesting close up photography of the embroidery on wood and paper is used as backdrops to help define the purpose of Gracy Design & Craft.
