This client requested for me to design a minimalist line-art profile picture for their social media accounts. The client sent me an image of themselves to trace over, they also asked I use a splash of colour behind the tracing, specifically the colour pink. After tracing the outline of the client, utilising layers in Illustrator, I sent the client the rough version of the project. They were happy with the arrangement of their photo and how their hat and collar were balanced within the ellipse. However, they felt that the colour chosen was quite dark, and they wished that the tracing had more breaks. Going back into illustrator, I took my clients feedback and implemented it in the project, altering the colour of the pink ellipse behind the sketch to be lighter and. adding breaks to the line-art with the eraser tool. I sent the altered and finished version back to the client and they were pleased with the result.
This client reached out to me to produce a logo for their upcoming app "wave". The app in question serves as a platform for independent and local musicians to form connections with a wider audience. This client asked that the design have an "Australian vibe" and that the outcome reflect traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art styles and practises, as they are inspired by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and aesthetics. The client did not have approval from said groups to use said cultural imagery and practices and as far as I am aware , does not identify as having Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander connections, I informed the client that as a non-Indigenous designer for a non-indigenous client, I could not ethically and morally do said designs as it would be appropriating a culture that neither of us belong to and said cultural practises are closed practises. I also informed them that such imagery has no real relevance to the apps concept and that it would be best to move in a direction that not only is respectful but also helps get across the purpose of their app. I sent two initial drafts of a simple wave graphic confined to a box, one with colour and the other just being a black in white design. underneath that the word "wave" was typed in a custom font that complimented the overall composition of the wave design . The client wasn't so sure of the graphic, but gravitated to the sage and grey colour palette swell as the font. taking this feed back on board and after several rejected version, we decided that the wave graphic was far to simplistic. instead of a wave, I designed a fish skeleton, where instead of bones there was an audio wave, tying back to that natural, beach-y vibe. the client really liked the imagery I created and how it suited the  chosen colours. I was happy that myself and the client could move the project away from any imagery or motifs that appropriated, disrespected and offended aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander groups, and I was also happy that we could make the imagery relevant to the overall project.
This project was requested by a queer punk feminist group, who had a a protest planned later this month. they of course wanted imagery to incorporate "girly" imagery and subvert it to fit their agenda. I happily took this request and created imagery appropriate to this aesthetic style they wanted. I created an illustration of a bunny head in a "kawaii" cartoonish style, surrounded by sparkles, hearts and bows. subverting this  innocent feminine imagery, I added an eye patch with a cross over the bunny's right eye and beneath the head a pair of bones forming a cross, overall imitating a skull and crossbones. I paired the image with rounded italicised text and pink start of varying size to create a pop of colour. upon sending the image to my client, they responded positively to the design really appreciating the imagery I created. they didn't feel the text matched well and also felt the stars were too much of a distraction, they also felt the graphic were quite small and could benefit from being enlarged. I took this feed back on fully and removed the adobe font and created my own within illustrator, that matched that punk vibe. I also enlarged the image and removed the stars as in reality they were distracting from the design. to keep that pop of colour I added a pink outer glow to the line-work of the graphic in indesign, which really made the overall poster pop. I sent the client this new updated poster design and an image of the printed poster to further demonstrate the pink outer glow as the digital file unfortunately didn't show it. They were really pleased about the overall outcome and approved of the design.
For this project a client requested that I create an informational multi-page layout that displayed important data, from a Australian Government PDF regarding the current gender pay gap in Australia. The PDF was wordy and difficult to decode as an outsider, which is why the client asked that I also make the language and information found in the pdf condensed, accessible and easy to digest. Being time conscious and aware of my other deadlines as a designer, utilised ChatGPT to extract important data and simplify the language. As a designer, the use of ChatGPT is often controversial, but in specific uses can be useful  and beneficial, as instead of focusing on altering language, I could instead focus on design and layout. for the overall design, I wanted to incorporate block colours of varying shades of pink and grey as they were bold and contrasting colours to the white background and emphasise the content with free to use visuals from the Unsplash gallery. The client was happy with the use of eye catching colours and images which made it visually striking juxtaposed with the simplistic colour block design, which allowed the key information to remain the point of focus for the reader. They were Interested in seeing the concept pushed further and I created a second page to the layout which introduced the reader to the topic and data graphs that represented the information visually. These graphs were created in Microsoft Word and transferred over to the Indesign document, and then formatted and arranged. Upon sending to them, the client was pleased with the finished design, especially with the use of the graphs which helped visualise the relevant data to the reader. It was an interesting experience using ChatGPT for this project, but it ultimately made the process easier and allowed me to focus on design and layout.
I was reached out to by independent perfume company which specialised in "unconventional combinations of scents" that are inspired by everyday life, as opposed to conventional and often generic scents by other brands. They reached out to gather photography concepts for new and upcoming scents, asking that I take creative and interesting photos of an assortment of items. I wanted to demonstrate to them my abilities as a designer as well as a person capable of photography and image editing by sending them an assortment of sample images, i.e; strawberries, lipgloss, running shoes, receipts and nail polish. I did so in both an outdoor environment as well as a light box for multiple options. Upon taking these photos I took them into Photoshop, removing imperfections from the images, as well as brightening said the images up and increasing saturation. As well as doing this, I altered the values of dark objects within the images, i.e; the shoes. The company was satisfied with the arrangement of the unconventional light-box images, specifically the monster energy and nail polish image and they appreciated the colour correction work put into them. They felt the strawberry and lipgloss image was too conventional and but appreciated the colour correction. Moving forward, I wanted to lend into that frantic "on-the-go" everyday image. To match this image I wanted to achieve, I opted to use my own handbag, with the contents either spilling out of being arranged around it. I did this both in the light-box and also in an outdoor environment, the light-box reminiscent to an editorial and the outdoor shots, feeling more natural. I further emphasised the saturation and brightness of theses images through photoshop, which made the subjects of the photos pop out more. My client was pleased with these images and gravitated towards the photos with the clean and stark background, utilising the photos as inspiration fro further shoots.
