Workin' Day and Night: Michael Jackson Music Poster 10/5/23
In order to express the listening experience of Michael Jackson’s song, Workin’ Day and Night, I decided to give the poster a groovy feel to match. The visual representation of Jackson’s disco song off of his first solo album is meant for disco lovers from then and now. The song itself has a fast-tempo and makes the listeners want to dance, which is one of the reasons why the song was so popular during its emergence in 1979. In the poster creation, I wanted to incorporate some stylization of artist, Milton Glaser.

In the design, I wanted to incorporate the groovy vibe of the disco era and how the song makes the listeners feel while grasping onto a big part of Glaser’s style; he uses a lot of organic lines of various colors, accompanied by a silhouette. To match this feel, I wanted to create a silhouette of Michael Jackson in one of his iconic poses, with the song’s title in a wavy typeface that I created myself. I decided to create the typeface myself instead of picking one that was premade because I believe that it gives the poster a more human touch since all the letters are different and conform to each other in some way. The colors I chose were more-so meant to confide in the era itself. Based on my research, the disco
era (especially in the club scene of the time, which was what I was leaning towards in my design) was full of lights and color, so I wanted to match that with the various colors of Glaser’s works. The specific uses of different shades of purple and orange were because they complement each other while bringing the viewer a pop with the purple and a kind of
soothing sense with the oranges.
