These photos were taken a little over a year ago, back when my Nonna was living at home with us. She was looking off-camera when my mother met her gaze with an encouraging smile to sit still for her photos. Her eyes show a glint of light, and even with her Alzheimer's her hands are still stretched out signifying that the Italian heritage in her has not gone anywhere.
