Taj Mahal combination mark design
I was given the task of creating a combination mark to promote the Taj Mahal. After researching this famous landmark, I began sketching ideas.
I then moved on to refining some of the designs in Illustrator.
I chose a design showing implied depth to showcase the reflecting pool in front of the Taj Mahal. The lines illustrating the border of the pool also represent sun rays. The building changes colors throughout the day by reflecting the sun. After considering shades of yellow or orange to show this color change, I ultimately chose to color the building pure white because great care is put into the maintenance of the marble exterior to keep it as white as possible. The reflection is black to represent the originally planned black duplicate of the building intended as the final resting place for Emperor Shah Jahan. The Taj Mahal was intended to serve as a mausoleum for only his wife, Mumtaz Mahal. The blue background represents the sky and water.
This final combination mark was then shown in various applications which can be used to promote the landmark. An enamel pin, an embroidered patch, a postcard, and a sign.
The sign would have a stone base with blue etched backlit glass. The text would be excluded since Agra, India (where the Taj Mahal is located) has a few different native languages. Also, many tourists from outside the country visit. The sign is intended to be placed in front of the gift shop to draw attention to its location.
Thanks for checking out my design!
