Exploring Japan's Abandoned Traditions
In this project we are admiring Japan's rich historical past with its beautiful landscape. These images showcase the delicate harmony between traditional architecture and the relentless march of time. Japan is known for it's abandoned/demolished castles, temples and architecture in general. With the help of these pictures I have created captivating images that bring the past to life in the present.
The Imperial Hotel designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, 1923 (originally built in 1890 by Yuzuru Watanabe).
Shuri (Shurijo) castle was originally built in 13th century by Hunbajunki, The second king of Chuzan. Castle has been destroyed many times over the centuries, each time rising again from the ashes.
The Ryōunkaku (Cloud-Surpassing Pavilion or Cloud-Surpassing Tower) was Japan's first Western-style skyscraper. It functioned from1890 till 1923 when the Great Kango earthquake completely demolished it.
