ROADRUNNER RESTAURANT AND SALOON POSTER

The intent of this project was to create a poster that would encourage other Grand Canyon University students to want to go to a particular place. For this project, I chose to make a poster for Roadrunner Restaurant and Saloon. Roadrunner is a place heavily associated with bull-riding and also includes live music, food, and dancing.

Final Poster:
My poster relied heavily on the idea of bull-riding and making an 8-second ride. This poster would appeal to any person who is daring, which is the exact type of person who would be seen at Roadrunner. I created this on an 18"x24" poster-board using all ink and graphite.
Research:
In order to make this poster, I had to gather research. To do this, I went to Roadrunner and sketched 35 different things that I saw. I also gathered ephemera and taped it into my sketchbook. Lastly, I wrote down anything that I overheard in the crowd that was relevant to my poster. I also took several photos while I was there to look back on when creating my final poster.

Thumbnails:
During my ideation process, I made 50 brainstorm nodes, a list of themes, and created 42 different sketches. These all included the name 'Roadrunner' but had different concepts such as bull-riding, dancing, music, and food. My sketches also included a "Big Idea" line to draw attention to the audience.
Roughs:
After creating several thumbnails, I narrowed them down to four which I felt best represented Roadrunner. Each rough has different principles of design, but they all get the same message across, which is bull riding. I chose rough number one as my final because I felt it was most aesthetically pleasing to the eye and suited a mature yet daring audience.
