PSA: National Parks
Hello! My name is Emily Christensen, I am currently a student at BYU-Idaho studying visual design. I'm excited to give you a walk through of my latest project.
Welcome to my campaign posters for the National Parks. Our parks undergo lots of changes due to high traffic each year and temperature changes, and so on. Overall, they go through a lot in a year. National Parks have always been special to me, so I'm excited to share my design process for these posters. My hope is that my love for the National Parks is portrayed through my designs.
Design Process:
A couple of the steps I went through in the design process included written brainstorms and sketches. These helped me narrow down my designs and decide what I wanted to include. Below are a couple of examples of what I included in my brainstorms and sketches.
These designs helped me to narrow down the approach I wanted to take and it helped me to decide on the topic of National Parks.
Initial Designs:
The initial designs were not perfect and they definitely needed improvements. Through the help of my peers and professors I was able to make adjustments to the alignment, text, and overall look of the posters. Here's a couple of the rough drafts and quick mock up
These were some of the initial designs. There were some critiques that were made and adjusted in this stage. The first one on the left had too much text and didn't include the logo. The middle one was the closest to the final edit but the one on the right also had some changes made to it. My peers recommended simplifying and realigning some things.
Final Images:
A couple of things that made my final edits successful were the alignment, hierarchy in the text, and the simplicity of the design. I am excited to present the final results in some mock up images.
Here are the final designs outside of those mockups.
Summary:
I am grateful for the opportunity I had to create these posters and experience the design process. I learned a lot about keeping things simple and not overshadowing the end result with lots of unnecessary information or thoughts in the final image. Returning to the basics and keeping in simple will make a greater impact in the end.
